Jiawen was previously a senior associate at Drew & Napier LLC’s Tax and Private Client Services Team and subsequently a senior associate at Baker & McKenzie.Wong & Leow’s Tax and Wealth Management Team.
Jiawen started her career being trained in all aspects of tax law, spanning corporate and individual income tax, goods and services tax, stamp duty and property tax. Jiawen’s training in tax provided a strong foundation for the development of her specialisation in trust and asset protection advisory, which involves advising high net worth clients on establishing trust structures for estate and succession planning and asset protection purposes.
Jiawen has worked on various complex estate and succession planning projects for high net worth families in the region. This includes advising families on the establishment of trusts to hold bankable and non-bankable assets such as operating businesses on a cross-border basis.
Jiawen’s background in tax law is a great advantage to her wealth management practice and has allowed her to advise clients on tax matters, in addition to trust and estate planning issues. With the growing interest in philanthropy in the region, her expertise also extends to advising corporates and individuals on the regulatory and tax considerations of establishing charitable structures.
Additionally, Jiawen works with private banks and institutional clients to develop their products and provide advice on their duties and obligations as fiduciaries, while protecting their interests. This includes providing internal training for financial institutions in relation to tax and/or wealth management topics including but not limited to automatic exchange of information, changes to anti-money laundering legislation, philanthropy and estate and succession planning tools.
